- Febuary 26, 2012 – Trayvon Martin
Trayvon Martin, 17, is fatally shot by neighbourhood watch George Zimmerman on a visit to the convenience store to buy a drink and sweets.
The young black teenager was visiting his family in Sanford, Florida, when Zimmerman shot him.
Zimmerman was not charged at first by Sanford Police. After an emotional uproar from the public Zimmerman was later charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
which was then later acquitted, Zimmerman walks free.
- November 23, 2014 – Jordan Davis
White Male Micheal Dunn killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis at a gas station parking lot.
Davis and his three friends were stopped by Dunn when he claimed their music was too loud before firing ten rounds into their car.
Dunns now servers a life prison without parole. Jordan Davis death sparked a nation wide conversation about the danger young black men face in America.
- July 17, 2014 – Eric Garner
‘I can’t breathe’ cried Eric Garner, 43, after he was put in a chokehold and killed on the side of the road by a NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.
Protests erupt throughout New York after a grand jury failes to indict the officer.
- August 5, 2014 – John Crawford
John Crawford, 22, is killed by police in Walmart after being seen with a toy gun, which was brought from the store.
Crawford and his girlfriends were in Walmart store in Ohio to purchase crackers, marshmallows and chocolates for a family gathering.
- August 9, 2014 – Michael Brown
Unarmed teenager Michael Brown is killed by police officer Darren Wilson outside of an apartment in Ferguson, Missouri.
A nationwide outcry pours throughtout America when there were no charges pressed aganist Wilson.
- November 23, 2014 – Tamir Rice
Tamir Rice, 12, is shot by police officer Timothy Loehmann twice for holding a toy gun.
Cleveland, Ohio police recieve a phone call after witnessing Rice pointing a toy gun at random people. The caller says the gun is “probably fake”, but the information is not relayed to the attending officers.
A grand jury dismiss any charges against Loehmann.
